Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator, who works with NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She earned an Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing as a child in New York City. Mitchell began in the field of radio and television reporter for Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She joined the CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In the following two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. In 1981 began reporting on the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. Mitchell was named the chief White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell was host and panelists on the TV program Meet the Press. She participated as a member of a panel discussion at the the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times in journalism, among them her Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell was the first journalist to report on White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure in office from 1981 to 1988. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy issues, such as the weapons control, budget taxes as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to various summits while in the company of the President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
