Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's first attempts to be famous in the mainstream were unsuccessful. She has been signed by 2 record labels, but she resigned prior to releasing any material. Capitol Records did release Perry's Ur So Gay, which received a little attention in 2007 for its cheerfully joking title. She made a greater splash a few months later, with the single I Kissed a Girl an assertive ode to sexual curiosity backed by a hard-edged electro-pop beat. The track quickly caused debate as some critics accused its promotion of same-sex relationships while others claimed that the sexually explicit scene the song depicted sparked the fantasies of males about sexuality among females. But the mixture of sensuality and polished music made I Kissed a Girl become the number one song in multiple countries powering the album sales of the Boys (2008). The sharp, bouncey second track was extremely popular. The album that Perry wrote in large part sold over three million copies.
